This advanced "Level 3" class is designed for people that have a good understanding of their camera. It is recommended to take Better Composition and the 3 part class Understand Your Camera. If you choose to persue photography as a job or side hustle, this class will help you make money.
Rise above the competition and take professional portraits.
A technical camera such as a DSLR or mirrorless is required for this class. A simple point and shoot cannot be used.
You are welcome to use my off camera flash equipment for the class. I'd be happy to talk through the equipment options during the lesson.
Flashes are constantly improving. The Chinese brand Yongnuo now has a several good options on Amazon and make for a great starter flash. While you can save a few dollars and get a manual flash, the TTL flashes can be used on or off camera. Giving you spare flashes when on the job. Please give me a call on to discuss the latest off camera flash model options.
You can take this class alone and not take any others. However, it builds on the knowledge of the classes Better Composition, and the 3 part class Understand Your Camera. We won't cover the fundamentals of composition, or basic use of shutter speed and aperture in this class. Working with a subject, posing and accurate measurements of ambient light are covered in People and Portrait Photography Workshop.
Frequently people take this class first, and end up coming to the others after. While it's fine to do that, you'll get better value leaving this class until last.
3 hours long. We start looking at gear options, then look at one and two light set ups and how to blend ambient with flash light. Then we'll cover the different set ups for popular lighting styles.
This class is held at the Colorado Photography School's Downtown location. We'll start in the class, and optionally, in the immediate vicinity in the downtown area.
